CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS IS NO LONGER BEING COLLECTED. The last day for construction debris collection was Friday, August 21. Any construction materials (siding, shingles, fencing, etc.) and other household items are the property owner’s responsibility to dispose of.

Branches and Brush Collection: Storm-related branches and brush collection is still ongoing for residents on the Thursday garbage route. The final day of storm debris pickup will be September 11.

After September 11, the entire Village will return to the regular chipping schedule and policy.

Yard Waste: Bi-weekly yard waste collection will continue for biodegradable bags and small containers. Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation as we work through storm cleanup.ng.

RECOVERY UPDATE – CURFEW  LIFTED

By declaration of the Village Administrator Jeff Sturgill, he curfew that was in effect following the tornado has now been lifted in Fox Crossing.

This is another positive step forward as our community continues to move from the immediate response into the longer recovery process. We want to thank our residents for their patience, cooperation, and understanding over the past several weeks. These restrictions were put in place to help keep people safe while emergency crews, utility workers, and cleanup teams worked throughout the hardest-hit areas.

The FCPD wants to additionally mention that although these restrictions were lifted, we still encourage you to follow all pre-existing ordinances involving trespassing, loitering, and curfew. Continue to be respectful of business and homeowner properties as they continue to proceed through these difficult times.

There is still plenty of recovery work ahead, but each step like this is a reminder of how far our community has come since the tornado.

The Village is beginning to wind down debris collection efforts from the July 27 tornado.  Construction debris collection will continue through Friday, August 21.  Construction debris should only contain loose construction materials (siding, roof shingles, construction wood, fencing, etc) that were damaged from the storm.  Other materials damaged by the storm such as outdoor furniture, tires, paver bricks, etc. are the responsibility of the property owner to properly dispose of.  If a structure needs to be razed, disposal of the razed materials is the responsibility of the property owner.  A raze permit is also required through the Village’s Building Department.

Vegetative debris collection for the Thursday garbage route will be ongoing until Friday, September 4.  Residents with small piles of vegetative debris remaining are encouraged to have these piles collected as yard waste.  Yard Waste must be in biodegradable paper bags or containers with lift handles (30 gallon capacity or smaller).  Yard Waste includes:

Garden debris.

Leaves

Bundled twigs and sticks (less than 3 feet in length)

Roots or shrubs with intact root balls

Clean woody vegetative material no greater than 6 inches in diameter

Due to the emergency disaster no tearing down, or removal, of any building is allowed without first applying for and receiving approval of a raze permit.

The potential for serious injuries exists: all utilities must be properly disconnected before doing any demolition work. The acquisition of the appropriate permit is mandatory and must be obtained before any work is initiated.

Information about permits from the City of Menasha, City of Neenah, and the Village of Fox Crossing can be found below:

• Menasha- If an entire building (garage, shed, house) needs to be removed:

1. Contact Menasha Community Development for a Raze Permit at (920) 967‑3610.

2. Once the permit is granted, a licensed contractor may dismantle and remove the building at the homeowner’s expense. Reminder: Contact your insurance company before any work is done.

Storm-damaged debris removal will continue on Tuesday August 4th, 2026 targeted locations in the Village of Fox Crossing, City of Menasha, and the City of Neenah.

🌳Tuesday August 4, 2026, at 6:00 a.m., residents in the indicated areas should have their vehicles moved out of the roadway for HEAVY EQUIPMENT RECOVERY OPERATIONS.

If vehicles remain on a street, crews will not have access to the area.

Starting at 6AM, the following areas will be SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY:

Fox Crossing: Lakeshore Dr north, starting at Old Midway Road. Fatima Street between Midway Road and Airport Road. Green Street and Terrace Ave from Fatima to Mission Street. Palisades Drive from George Street.

Menasha: The entire area within: DePere St. & 3rd/Plank Rd to Konemac St. to the water. On Doty Island: All Roads east of Cleveland St, north of Nicolet Blvd.

Neenah: 1st Street, 3rd Street, and Park Drive between Nicolet Blvd and East Forest Ave.

Storm Damage Assessment update

Initial Damage assessment of last week’s storm has been done internally.  Now that trees and branches are cleaned up in our areas of damage, we are now starting to go out and post on properties with structural damage and damage beyond repair.

We will have two main colors of damage yellow and red.  We will not be posting houses that are good or just have basic cosmetic issues. 

Yellow will be for structures that have structural damage.  It is possible that some or all the buildings are still able to be used every day.  Please check the placard to see if any portions of the building are unsafe to use.  We will use this when one or more of the following conditions apply:

  1. Safety is questionable or hazardous that require restrictions of occupancy of use of that specific structure.
  2. The inspectors have serious doubts about safety that can only be resolved by removal of architectural elements or by an engineering evaluation
  3. The inspectors are concerned about cladding damage that may result in further damage to the continued exposure to weather conditions
  4. Interior finishing and ceilings are water saturated and may lead to falling hazards or air-quality issues.    
  5. There is uncertainty about the possibility of further damage due to foundation conditions and occupant load.

Red will be used when the structure is unsafe to be used or entered.  We will use this when one or more of the following conditions apply:

  1. Extreme hazard or unsafe situation is present
  2. Obvious safety risks are present
  3. The degree of damage is such that the structure is believed to be in danger of collapse from either static conditions, subsequent winds or other events, of the addition of occupant load.
  4. Another unsafe condition is present
  5. Structure is unsafe for occupancy or entry, except as authorized by the local building department.

The note “This Placard is not a demolition order” was printed on the placard to dispel the widely held belief that an unsafe placard means the building needs to be demolished.  The placard is posted when there is an immediate risk associated with entry, use or occupancy.  In most cases, the condition causing that risk can be mitigated to the satisfaction of the jurisdiction and the building can then be entered.  The general warning has been reworded to refer to the specific hazards to be written by the inspectors.

We will have most, if not all our areas impacted completed by mid-week.  If you do not have anything posted then you are a part of the cosmetic fix group.  Cosmetic fixes include but not limited to siding, roofing, gutters and windows/doors.  We are still issuing permits for work being done in some instances.  Below are some instances where a permit may or may not be needed

Purpose of permits is to help protect homeowners from contractors that are not licensed or insured.  And to help verify that their work meets code and manufacturer requirements. Storm-damaged debris removal will continue on Monday August 3rd, 2026 targeted locations in City of Menasha, City of Neenah, and Village of Fox Crossing.

🌳Starting Monday, August 3, 2026, at 6:00 a.m., residents in the indicated areas should have their vehicles moved out of the roadway for contractors and street crews to remove brush and tree debris piles.

If vehicles remain on a street, crews will not have access to the debris, and it will not be collected.

As the debris is collected, the streets that crews are ACTIVELY working on will be TEMPORARILY CLOSED and will reopen as soon as the collection is completed.

Starting at 6AM, the following areas will be SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY:

Menasha: The entire area within: Racine St. & 3rd St/Plank Rd. to Konemac St. to the water

Neenah: South Park Ave (From Yorkshire Rd to Winnebago Heights)

Fox Crossing: Lakeshore Dr starting at Gordon St traveling north until the dead en.

Harter’s Fox Valley Disposal continues to make every effort to maintain regular garbage and recycling collection routes as road conditions allow. We are also continuing to address large-item and household debris removal. We will keep residents informed as we develop a plan of action and have additional information to share.

Household Debris Removal:

The Village is currently reviewing options for household debris removal from storm damaged areas.  More information to come over the next couple of days.

Due to the substantial amount of storm damage our Village experienced yesterday, we will NOT require a request form for August chipping. We are working to help residents get branches and brush cleaned up as quickly as we can.

EAST SIDE:
Residents can leave branches and brush at the curb, OR bring them to our temporary branch and brush drop-off site at Wittmann Park (920 W Airport Rd, Menasha). Please do not drop woodchips at this location.

WEST SIDE:
Residents can leave branches and brush at the curb, OR bring them to our permanent drop-off site at 2000 Municipal Dr., Neenah, WI.

We cannot provide an exact timeline for when or where crews will be picking up branches and brush. Our main priority is getting the East Side cleaned up, as that area received significantly more storm damage than the West Side. We will work our way through the Village.
